First one day road trip for 2010! This time we went to Tanjong Sepat + Bagan Lalang with my bro. Forgot how I got to know that place, but it was worth the visit. We departed from PJ after a late breakfast and took about 1.5 hours to reach Tanjong Sepat, a village by seaside.
At first, we weren’t sure where to head to as there is no obvious signboard. Then Bier spotted the famous for keropok, Arowana sign when we were just about to pass the area. We turned into a small small road, like into a kampong. Unsure what to expect, we just drove on. The shop is not big and its small factory is just beside. When we entered the retail shop, we felt like we found gold. There are tonnes of keropok choices to choose from and you can even try them! Price is cheap with RM3.50 per packet of 500g or RM10 for 3. After selecting blindly, we managed to grab some (actually a lot) for ourselves and friends/family. We also got some other plum stuff, birdnest lookalike mee, and a pancake of tea (for mum). You would never guess that we spent over RM100 on the first stop at such a ulu place! :O Mind you, bus of tourists from Singapore were there!
We got a map from the counter and drove to find the famous bun place. The whole place is like a grid so you can enter and exit through any road, sorta. Took us little or no effort to find it! Again, filled with tourists! We visited the small bakery/factory first and managed to grab every single flava they have for later. The lady was friendly too to let us take photos and even recommended us to check out the steaming machine. Then we went across the road to get fresh buns and drinks. We settled for cups of fresh ambra (sa li in Chinese) juice. Boss wasn’t skimpy with the fruits and even offered to put in the leftover extracts as he said taste better. Cheap! Only RM2 for a cup of real-fresh juice!
What an unexpected start for a trip of such huh! Then we moved on to the famous mushroom cultivation farm nearby. You can get fresh oyster mushroom, ling-zhi (not sure what’s that in English) and white mushroom there. We bought a packet for ling-zhi which can be used in making herbal drink or soup. Yea, spending again! I think we bought more than we usually do at shopping centre!
We walked to the back of the place and they have a small jetty out into the sea. The weather was warm and it felt good with sea wind blowing into the face. So we actually sat there doing nothing other than enjoying the wind for good 15 minutes
Bier said there could be fresh seafood for sales at Bagan Lalang, which is another 15KM away. When we reached there, it was merely a beach with a upcoming resort at the side. It was wide and long, but don’t expect white sand and clean water. Guess what, we brought a kite there! We quickly set it up and the wind brought it up in less a minute! Fun! It has been like decades since we all last flew a kite
We let it up and laze around the place for a while before struggling to bring it down
Time for food, so Bier suggested to go back to Tanjong Sepat for seafood dinner (since we didn’t manage to get any fresh one!) The dinner, was the most disappointing part of the trip. Anyway, we already lowered our expectation since most blog didn’t say how great is the seafood there
FYI, it wasn’t that cheap either.
Home sweet home after dinner. Our initial intention is just to see the place, but the trip was more fruitful than expected, with the keropok and buns!
The place is quiet and thus make it a good getaway from bustling city. We already planned to go back again someday, and yea dinner at other place
